Postdoctoral Position in Molecular, Developmental, and Cancer Biology

Downstate Health Sciences University

Position: The laboratory of Janice L. Brissette, Ph.D. is seeking a postdoctoral scientist to pinpoint key regulators of morphogenesis and disease in mammalian tissues. The scientist will develop projects based on mouse models in which the inactivation of transcription factors or signaling proteins disrupts developmental processes and yields human-like disorders. Processes disrupted in our mutants include the formation of stem cell populations and niches, the control of cell proliferation and survival, and the guidance of cells or their extensions to specific anatomic sites. The modeled human diseases include melanoma, vitiligo, Dandy-Walker syndrome, and small bowel adenocarcinoma. Using the models, the scientist will: 1) define the mechanisms of action of the mutated genes and their wild-type counterparts, and 2) seek to translate mechanistic studies into diagnostic assays for cancer. The starting salary for the position is $60,000 per year.
