Description

The Department of Biology is seeking to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) for 36 months, financially supported by the BBSRC grant held by Dr Francesco Licausi. The work is to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Biology, University of Oxford. The research topic is ‘The evolution of oxygen sensing mechanisms in the green lineage'.

The PDRAs will apply a novel approach that merges the synthetic biology framework, molecular physiology and developmental biology to investigate the evolution of in bryophytes. The project involves the generation of transgenic Marchantia plants, and their characterization. This includes quantification of specific transcripts and proteins. The design and adjustment of strategies towards these goals is expected to come out from regular interaction and pro- active discussion of the PDRA with the PI.

The postholder should hold a PhD or equivalent (or be very close to obtaining one) in a relevant area. The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate:

• Sufficient specialist knowledge in plant biology to work within established research programmes,

• Ability to manage own academic research and associated activities, previous experience of contributing to publications/presentations,

• Statistics and data analysis skills

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.
