英国牛津大学2022年招聘博士后职位(心脏损伤后淋巴管免疫调节)

Postdoctoral Research Scientist: lymphatic vessel-immunomodulation following heart injury

University of Oxford

Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research scientist to work with Professor Paul Riley on a Medical Research Council-funded programme of research in which the overarching goal is to understand how the cardiac lymphatic vasculature can be fully exploited to modulate the immune response and optimize outcome after cardiac injury.

The successful applicant will work closely with the Riley group to gain insight from mouse models of lymphatic-based immune cell trafficking during adult heart injury; exploiting surgical models of heart attack, lineage- specific cell fate mapping with histology and confocal microscopy. They will also perform multi-omics at single cell resolution, combined with targeted qPCR and cytokine arrays to characterize the activated lymphatic endothelium and to molecularly phenotype retained versus cleared immune cells. These analyses will be combined with functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to determine optimal spatio-temporal clearance and to define which immune cell sub-populations are beneficial or detrimental for improved outcome following heart attack (myocardial infarction).

The Postdoc will work closely with a second group member on the same programme focusing on modelling human lymphangiogenesis for drug discovery.

Responsibilities will include managing academic work and administrative duties, generating high quality data, adapting and developing scientific techniques and experimental protocols, and contributing ideas for new research projects. You will be required to use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment, and to act as a source of information and advice to members of the group on scientific protocols and experimental techniques as well as assist in training and supervising students within the group. In addition, you will be expected to present at scientific meetings and contribute to drafting manuscripts for the publication of your studies.

You will hold, or be near the completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, and have relevant experience in molecular/cellular biology relevant to the project. In addition, you must have the ability to contribute significant intellectual input to the progress and direction of the research project, and the ability to take the lead in some areas. You must be strongly motivated with a highly enthusiastic approach to science with good organizational, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills. You must be able to work both independently and part of a research team, and be capable of obtaining a Home Office personal license if you do not already hold one.

It is desirable that you have experience in cardiovascular research working with animal models, including surgical models, and in particular use of the mouse for lineage-tracing and in vivo studies. Experience of standard molecular cloning (recombineering), next generation sequencing and confocal imaging with computational methods including bioinformatics and image analysis software would be beneficial.

You will be based in the Sherrington Building, Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3PT.

The position is fixed term, funded by the Medical Research Council until 16/05/2025.

Closing date for applications is Tuesday 12th April.

Interviews are likely to be held on Friday 29th April.

Applications are particularly welcome from women, black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in academic posts in Oxford.

We, as a Department and Community, will be considerate and welcoming of all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation and gender identity. We acknowledge societal inequalities and how these impact us, and those around us, personally and professionally. DPAG Statement of Inclusion
