Human Technopole (HT) is a new interdisciplinary life science research institute, created and supported by the Italian Government, with the aim of developing innovative strategies to improve human health. HT is composed of five Centres: Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, Neurogenomics and Health Data Science. The Centres work together to enable interdisciplinary research and to create an open, collaborative environment that will help promote life science research both nationally and internationally.

Open PostDoctoral position at Human Technopole in Francesca Coscia’s group to investigate the molecular mechanisms of thyroid function and disease, by combining electron microscopy (Cryo-EM), biophysics and biochemistry. Key tasks and responsibilities:

We are looking for a highly motivated, independent and creative structural biologist to study the impact of protein trafficking on thyroid hormone regulation (with a focus on membrane and extracellular proteins). The postdoctoral fellow will use a combination of high-resolution structural determination (mainly cryo-EM) and biochemical/biophysical techniques to study the structure and mechanism of action of multiple protein complexes. The Postdoc will be part of a multidisciplinary environment and international environment, with the opportunity to learn new methods and be highly supported in developing his/her scientific career.

Job requirements

Essentials:

◦PhD and Track record in protein structure determination or Structural Biology (with a focus on cryo-EM).

◦Required technical skills: proficiency in cloning and protein construct design, protein expression and purification, macromolecular complexes, cryo-EM sample preparation and data collection and analysis.

Additional:

◦Highly desirable technical skills: experience with membrane proteins and glycoproteins. Integration of structural data with proteomics and bioinformatics.

Required personal skills

◦Fluency in English HT is an international research institute;

◦Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment and to work independently;

◦Ability and interest to learn or develop new methodologies;

◦Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated with a proven ability to effectively interact and collaborate with others as part of a team;
