Huntington Medical Research Institutes is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through patient-focused scientific research. Our brand-new state of the art laboratory anchors the biomedical corridor on South Fair Oaks in Pasadena. Our scientists’ research focuses on the connection between the brain and heart, developing diagnostic tools to help treat common diseases of these vital organs that affect every family.

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Neuroscience Department at Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI), Pasadena, California, to discover non-invasive biomarkers of Alzheimer’s Disease and investigate mechanisms that increase the risk of dementia in an elderly cohort. The project will examine molecular profiles in biofluids and biochemical/bioenergetic mechanisms of oxidized and signaling lipids that differentiate cognitively healthy individuals from those who are at risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease. The overall objective is to discover novel diagnostic biomarkers of Alzheimer’s disease and develop new tests for wider screening of an aging population.

We welcome applications from highly motivated and independent-minded individuals. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, laboratory experience, and institutional guidelines.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

・ PhD degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, with expertise in analytical instrumentations and simple chemical synthesis/modification of oxidized lipid metabolites.

・Candidates with a good track record of publications, and experience in mass spectrometry, lipidomics, proteomics, click chemistry, development of colorimetric or fluorescence assay.

・Experience in small molecule quantification and detection methods will be an advantage.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability and interest in mentoring students

・ Good judgment and decision-making capability

・Observes laboratory safety and security procedures

・Uses laboratory equipment and materials properly

・Must be a reliable and conscientious self-starter, with excellent attention to detail and ability to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines

・Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, building respect, consensus, and trust across reporting lines
