An international tender is open for the award of an uncertain-term contract to the position of a Laboratory Manager and Researcher, with a Post-doctoral degree, within the scope of Project ERC-CoG-101001332, funded by ERC, in the following conditions:

Scientific area: Machine-learning for bioimaging, development in optical microscopy, and its application to cell biology research.

Eligibility / Requirements: Candidates should have a completed PhD degree in Biological Physics, Computational Biology or any related areas with at least 5 years of lab experience. Previous experience in the development of computational bioimage analysis methods is essential. Experience in deep- learning-based bioimage analysis, super-resolution microscopy, optical microscopy development, cell imaging and sample preparation for microscopy will be valued. The capacity to work independently and as a part of a team is required. High commitment and a collaborative attitude are needed for this job. Troubleshooting capacity and attention to detail are essential. Experience with: Python and ImageJ is required, and good knowledge of Keras, TensorFlow, PyTorch and scikit-learn will be valued. Good communication skills, including a good spoken English level, are necessary.

Functions to be performed/Workplan: The selected candidate will join the Optical Cell Biology lab starting between April-July 2022. The activities that the candidate will perform are: 1) Develop new machine-learning-based computational and optical methods for microscopy to help study cell biology and infection through imaging studies; 2) Help oversee the management of the laboratory. This includes contributing to the preparation of grant applications, reports, publications and supervising students; 3) Imaging and analysis of cellular behaviour under different contexts; 4) Transfer of knowledge to graduate students when requested by the PI; and 5) Maintain the excellent function of the research laboratory.

Applicable legislation and regulations: Labor Code, approved Law no. 7/2009, of February 12, with the changes introduced by Law no. 93/2019, of September 4 , and other complementary legislation.

Duration of the contract: The contract is scheduled to start in April 2022, and may reach a maximum limit of 4 years depending on the budget availability of the project.

Type of contract and salary: Uncertain Term employment contract. The salary will be according to the 38th salary level of the TabelaRemuneratóriaÚnica (TRU), approved by ordinance nº1553-C / 2008 of December 31.

Selection methods: Applications will be evaluated according to the Curriculum and references (60%), motivation letter (20%). If considered necessary by the jury, the interview of the selected candidates will represent 20% of the final mark. The final results will be expressed on a scale of 0-100. According to the eligibility and selection criteria, the deliberation is made using nominal vote, and abstentions are not allowed.

Composition of the Jury: Prof. Ricardo Henriques, Dr. Simão Coelho, and Dr. Hannah Heil. Substitute members (optative) Dr. Maria JoãoAmorim or Dr. Gabriel Martins.

Notification of results: Minutes will be drawn up with a summary of the Jury meetings, their votes and justification, along with a seriated list of the approved candidates and their classifications. The results of this call will be sent by email to all candidates. The Ata will be sent to any candidate that makes that request.
