Applications are invited for two Postdoctoral Research Associates to work under the supervision of Professor Chris Schofield, in collaboration with Professor Tim Walsh on a project which involves the development of biochemical assays to combat antimicrobial resistance via a multidisciplinary approach employing state of the art assays, medicinal chemistry and clinical microbiology. The focus will be on protein production, assay development/application and biophysical analyses, including by crystallography. The research is funded by INEOS Oxford Institute of Antimicrobial Research (IOI-AMR; https://www.ineosoxford.ox.ac.uk/ ).

The successful candidates will be responsible the design and/or development of biochemical assays and to carry out biophysical analyses for the overall project. They will test hypotheses and analyse scientific data, reviewing and refining working hypotheses as appropriate, and adapt existing and develop new techniques and methodology. They will be responsible for managing their own academic research and administrative activities and use specialist scientific equipment. The successful candidates will also act as a source of information and advice to other members of the group and carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups.

Candidates should hold a PhD in Biochemistry or a related field (or have submitted a PhD thesis) prior to taking up the appointment. They should have extensive expertise in biochemical assay development and be able to demonstrate competence and success in their thesis research area. They should be able to demonstrate an ability to work supportively in a laboratory environment and with minimal supervision. They will be well organised and be able to keep detailed laboratory records and report on progress at regular intervals. The successful candidates will also have an excellent general knowledge of related areas.

The post will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, 12 Mansfield Road, Oxford OX1 3TA.

These are full-time, fixed term positions for up to 36 months.
