Position Information

Position Overview

Essential Job Duties

The person will lead research in the development and characterization of sustainable, renewable, and biodegradable bioproducts. The person will need to do literature reviews, design experiments, conduct experiments, analyze the results, communicate the results in oral and verbal presentations, and write peer reviewed papers on the project. They will need to be skilled in a chemical, chemical engineering or related lab. The person will need to manage a lab safely and mentor students.

Duties and Responsibilities

Must be able to perform research in a chemistry lab.

Design experiments. Perform biodegradation experiments. Perform chemical modifications of biomass. Perform chemical and physical characterization of raw materials and final products.

Must be able to communicate results

Must be able to create and present powerpoint presentations, create written reports, and create peer reviewed papers. Must be able to contribute to writing research proposals.

Must be able to manage a lab and students

Must be able to lead effort to keep lab well-stocked, clean and safe. Must be able to mentor students, assisting them in designing experiments and analyzing results. Must be able to train students on techniques in the lab.

Experience in biomass characterization, processing, and product development or in biodegradation experimentation. Experience in textiles, paper, or agriculturally related science fields.
